What are alternative dispute resolution mechanisms?

They are different possibilities for people involved in a conflict to solve it by applying the procedures regulated and monitored by the Ministry of Justice and Law, without the intervention of a judge or a judicial process, i.e., they are an option to resolve conflicts in an amicable manner,
expeditious, simple, agile, efficient, effective and with full legal effects, where the protagonists are the parties!

  • Mediation is a conflict resolution mechanism through which a third party outside the problem intervenes between people who are involved in a conflict to listen to them, see their interests and facilitate a way in which equitable solutions are found for the participants in the dispute. Mediation services may cover the areas of civil, commercial, labor and family law, or be suitable for non-legal disputes that require an interdisciplinary approach to assist the parties in their resolution.

Historical review

The Conciliation and Arbitration Center was approved by Resolution No. 960 of June 13, 2003 issued by the Ministry of the Interior and Justice. It currently operates in the Parque Tecnológico building on the 1st floor of our University on the road to Pance.

Initially called the Center for Conciliation, Arbitration and Amicable Composition, by contraction “CECAM”, it was a unit for conciliation, arbitration, amicable composition, room rental, registration of minutes and certificates.
Created to manage conflict resolution, capable of projecting increasing levels of credibility, reliability and transparency.

Today, the Center for Conciliation and Arbitration of the Universidad de San Buenaventura, Cali Branch, promotes the construction of scenarios of agreement to promote peaceful coexistence by offering spaces to operate and promote the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution Methods – ADR – among the Cali community.
